Winter Skincare Must-Haves

February 28, 2018

Whenever I think about winter skincare, the first thing that comes to mind is a good, effective moisturizer. It’s no surprise that, with the harsh conditions the weather might be providing, we instantly think about slapping on more moisturizer as a shield to any condition our skin might be in for, and that’s perfectly reasonable and, in most cases, helpful.

For me, however, adding more moisturizer to my routine can cause me, a gal who’s prone to adult acne, to breakout even more despite the dry and cold conditions. Over the years, I’ve found the first defense against harsh winter damage lies, not within more moisturizer, but with a gentle but effective cleanser.

If you’re not already switching up your skincare routine based on the seasons, most likely, you should be. In summer, I typically use a gel or soapy cleanser to remove all the things we tend to encounter during the summertime like sweat and free radicals from being outdoors more. In the winter, I’ve found a milk-based cleanser or a cleansing balm can really help.

I also like to use milk-based cleansers or cleansing balms in the mornings during the summer. I live in Arizona and as you can imagine, it’s really dry here since we don’t get any humidity whatsoever. Humidity doesn’t do well for my hair, but it does well for everyone’s skin. In our house, we try to have at least two humidifiers running to make up for the lack of humidity here. I’ve also found that it is unnecessary to wash my face in the mornings during the winters. I never go to sleep with makeup on so really, I’m only rinsing off my skincare products from the night before. So, a quick few splashes are good enough in my opinion. In the summer, I like using a cleansing balm in the morning during summer since I tend to be more sweaty at night with the heat.

This year, I’ve discovered a new favorite from Farmacy called Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm that I’ve really been enjoying. I love the cute packaging and how they provide you with a little scooper to scoop out the formula. I also love the smell. My favorite part about it though is the way my skin feels clean but not stripped away of its natural oils afterward which is a huge plus for me. Farmacy is also a cruelty-free company, and you all know I love that.

Farmacy’s Cleansing Balm has been a big staple for me this winter, and I highly recommend it. I’m excited to try it as a morning cleanser in the mornings during the summer as well.
